My 8-week-old husky puppy eats too fast and vomits. What to do?

Poor Hazel sounds like she is quite ill at the moment! If she has been vomiting for more than 24 hours, or she has vomited multiple times in an hour, then you can try a home remedy. Otherwise, you need to take her into a vet right away. Home remedy: Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, Hazel will need to see a vet right away.

It is not uncommon for puppies to eat more than they should, and they typically vomit as a result of that. If Diesel is bright and active as normal you just need to monitor him at home. You need to offer him smaller portions of food every few hours. Please, follow the feeding instructions on the package regarding the amount food he should be getting. It is very easy to overfeed a puppy if you don't stick to the recommendations.

Offer a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. This can be boiled boneless/skinless chicken breast, ground turkey, ground beef (cooked/drained) or cottage cheese mixed with plain white rice. You can serve it warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate Alaska's appetite. Once she is eating, slowly transition to her regular diet. If her appetite does not return or if she develops other symptoms (lethargy, diarrhea, vomiting) then have her examined by your veterinarian.

Poor Blue! Small breed young puppies are delicate and they are extremely prone to low blood sugar if they don’t eat well. This condition can be fatal. There are many causes for vomiting including worms, change in diet, bacteria over growth and Parvo. I recommend to have Blue seen today by his veterinarian. It’s very important to get these little puppies eating and not vomiting to avoid low blood sugar. The doctor will need to run some tests to determine the cause. Offer him boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice. This is a bland diet which can help to settle his stomach. Smaller, more frequent meals are better than two large ones. Poor Benji! If he's only vomited once or twice, it is best to keep an eye on him. You can also offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. Small breeds are more prone to issues such as hypoglycemia, so making sure Benji is fed several smaller meals throughout the day instead of larger ones may help, and may also decrease vomiting so he isn't eating too much all in one meal. If he continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness in addition to it, a vet visit is best to rule out other issues such as illnesses, parasites, foreign body ingestion, etc that can also cause vomiting.

It's possible that Iris may be drinking the water too quickly, and then vomiting it up. Slowing her down by offering smaller amounts of food and water more frequently rather than one large amount of food and water may help her keep it down and can help reduce the chances of possible bloat. If she continues to vomit, or otherwise acts ill, scheduling a vet appointment to look for underlying issues is best.

There are many causes of vomiting but most commonly the cause can be directly linked to the diet or an imbalance of the gut bacteria. I typically recommend switching the diet to something different and transition over a 7-10 day period gradually reducing the old and increasing the new food until you have completely switched Mina over to 100% new food. I would recommend a food such as Science Diet or Royal Canin and use one of the salmon formulas. Allow at least 4 weeks to see if this food trial helps. After this food trial, if you are still seeing the same problem, I would recommend adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online or at your local pet store. If the vomiting continues despite the dietary change and addition of probiotic to the food, I would recommend that you have a veterinarian examine Mina so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
