My husky puppy won't eat and has tummy grumbles. How can I help?

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Tundra evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. I would feed him very small portions. If he keeps it down, he can have a little more. You can also try feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken, hamburger, or turkey and rice. If the vomiting continues he should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible as he may have a serious medical condition.

She is likely going to have some major GI upset, especially if the treats contained a lot of fiber (which pumpkin does). Picking up her regular food and offering a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice may help with minor digestive upset and get her feeling better. If she doesn't pass stool, continues vomiting, seems very painful, has blood in her stool or vomit, or her stomach/abdomen look very bloated, painful or she is in distress, then it could indicate something more serious ongoing which should be seen ASAP by a vet.

It is important that puppies are on a good quality puppy food in order to support their growth and development. All new foods can cause some diarrhoea and it helps to introduce new foods over a few days as well as adding probiotics to help the bowel. If he is currently tolerating wet food best then a puppy wet formula would be recommended. Ensure also he is up to date with deworming treatments as intestinal worms can contribute to such signs also

She may have ingested something that isn't agreeing with her GI tract. Monitor her and if the symptoms worsen, seek veterinary attention. If not, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet ( boiled boneless / skinless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If her appetite does not return or she begins to vomit, see your veterinarian.

However, it is important to continue her on puppy food for at least another 2-3 months. This will let her grow appropriately as needed. I don't think it's necessarily something to be worried about at this stage. It is not uncommon for huskies and husky-type dogs to be picky/light eaters. She may be low energy because she is unsure of her surroundings. You have only had her one day. Don't force her or push her to be social if she doesn't want to be. If she is vomiting or having diarrhea she should see a veterinarian ASAP. If she is of normal body weight I would not be concerned. Many dogs these days are overfed and too fat. I doubt she will be starve herself. In my entire veterinary career I think I have only told 1 or 2 people that their dogs were too skinny. It is very rare. I suggest you get a scale and weigh her once a week and keep a log. When Amelia goes to the vet next take the log with you and you can discuss it with them. Has she been dewormed? Is she up to date on her vaccinations? She is supposed to have a round of vaccines at 8 weeks of age, 12 weeks of age and 16 weeks of age. They should be dewormed at each of those vaccine appointments too. You really need to make a relationship with a local vet especially if you are a first time dog owner. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
