New puppy vomited after eating. What should I do about feeding?

Poor Benji! If he's only vomited once or twice, it is best to keep an eye on him. You can also offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. Small breeds are more prone to issues such as hypoglycemia, so making sure Benji is fed several smaller meals throughout the day instead of larger ones may help, and may also decrease vomiting so he isn't eating too much all in one meal. If he continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness in addition to it, a vet visit is best to rule out other issues such as illnesses, parasites, foreign body ingestion, etc that can also cause vomiting.

First of all, Peewee is beyond adorable! Overeating can certainly lead to one episode of vomiting followed by a good nap. If Peewee wakes up from his nap and is acting normally without further vomiting, there is likely no need for concern. However, if he seems uncomfortable, vomits more, or is lethargic, he may need to be evaluated by his vet. Odds are that he will be just fine after a big dinner! :-)

It is not that unusual for a puppy to be sick, especially if he has been running around and eaten recently. As long as the pup seems in goid form I wouldnt worry too much. However if he seems dull or continues to vomit then a trip to the vet would be wise.

I would just give him a small dose of plain white boneless skinless chicken and white rice to help settle his tummy. If he is acting lethargic or continues to have vomiting or diarrhea, I would have a vet take a look at him. Small dogs like him can quickly get dehydrated. I would feed him very small portions. If he keeps it down, he can have a little more. You can also try feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken, hamburger, or turkey and rice. If the vomiting continues he should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible as he may have a serious medical condition.

If this has occurred more than once or twice Diego should see a veterinarian. If he is still hungry but unable to keep food down he may have an esophageal disorder or GI blockage. You can try fasting him for 4-6 hours after the last time he threw up and offer just a very small amount of food. If he keeps that down, wait a couple of hours then offer a little more. But if the food is still coming back up he should see a vet to determine the cause.

Puppies do tend to sleep a lot more than adult dogs, so this is probably normal. The soft stools could be caused by food intolerance, food allergies, intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, bacterial or viral infection, stress colitis, among others. I would recommend that you have Zeus dewormed in case this is caused by intestinal parasites. A common cause for vomiting in puppies is overeating or eating too fast. You may need to divide up Zeus's daily feeding amount into 4 meals that he eats every 6 hours. The bag of food will have feeding guidelines on the back or side that will tell you how much he should eat each day based on either his current weight or his expected adult weight. If you do this and Zeus is still vomiting, or if he is not interested in food, I recommend that Zeus be checked out by a vet ASAP.
