Is it safe for my 4-month-old puppy to eat leftover mac and cheese?

Oh Cooper, mischievous Golden Retriever puppy! Cheese is not toxic but in large quantities or in patients sensitive to dairy products it can cause gastrointestinal upset. I would monitor Cooper for the development of vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation over the next 24-48 hours. If these develop, I would have him examined by his veterinarian to assess if an anti-nausea medication, probiotic, or laxative is needed.

I think you might be asking if it is okay to feed your puppy cheese. While cheese is safe for dogs to eat, it is relatively high in fat and I wouldn't recommend feeding much. With any treats it is important to make sure they don't make up more than 10% of the diet for proper nutrition.

Regular ice cream or cheese can be fine in small amounts but it based on each individual animal. If you want to give your dog anything dairy as a small treat, only start with one thing in very small amounts to see how Brody tolerates it and ensure he doesn't develop any vomiting/diarrhea.

Some do handle certain dairy products ok while others develop tummy upset (vomit and diarrhea). If you want to give Bruno dairy products start with small amounts to see how he handles it. You may see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite from this. If you do see it, have Ollie seen by a vet.
