Puppy has diarrhea and gas after training; vet says he's healthy. Why?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | neutered | 6 months and 9 days old | 28 lbs

My 6month Heeler is a friendly and playful dog. Two weeks ago, we did a board and train with a trainer to teach him to stop pulling on leash and he is doing fine. However, he starts to have diarrhea 2-3 times a day since he was back. We went to the vet on Monday and the vet said he is healthy. The vet also gives him antibiotics and a chicken and rice food sample to see if the diarrhea stops. He also farts a lot. He lives with another corgi pupand they play all the time. We walk 15min/3time a day

It sounds like your dog has a case of colitis, or an inflammation of the colon, resulting in an increase in the volume and frequency of stools.

Colitis can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, irritable bowel disease, pancreatitis, a foreign body/blockage and viruses.

If your dog’s current treatment does not resolve the diarrhea after a few days he may need a more extensive workout and treatment.
