My dog has gas and diarrhea after eating human food, what to do?

This could be due to a number of things, most like;y him eating something that disagreed with him, something too rich that he isn't used to eating. If you changed his dog food recently or introduced wet food to his diet this could be what started it. Other possibilities include parasites, food allergies, or bacterial infection. Try feeding him a bland diet for a few days, plain cooked white rice mixed with an equal part of plain boiled chicken breast, unseasoned, or plain hamburger, cooked and the fat rinsed off. If the symptoms persist or get worse, including developing new symptoms like diarrhea, lethargy and loss of appetite, get him seen by your vet as soon as possible for an exam and fecal analysis.

I strongly recommend starting her on a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortifolora and a bland, low fat diet for the next 48hours and this should resolve now that the offending food has been withdrawn. Ensure to keep pups up to date with deworming treatments also as internal parasites can contribute to diarrhea

If he is otherwise bright and alert, eating and not vomiting, most cases will resolve within 3-5days - a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora or canikur can be very helpful to speed recovery alongside a bland or specialist intestinal diet. A check up would be recommended if there is any vomiting, weakness or fever

You can consider stopping both foods and feeding boiled skinless chicken or hamburger with plain rice. The addition of a probiotic like Fortiflora would also help regulate any disruptions to the GI tract. After a few days, slowly resume whatever diet you intend on feeding regularly. If diarrhea persists in spite of this, the addition of an anti-diarrheal and/or anti-inflammatory drug may be required.

Typically if you give your pet probiotics this will help with the diarrhea. I would recommend giving Culturelle over the counter to the food daily and hopefully this is enough to get things back to normal. However some pets will have severe bacteria dysbiosis (imbalance) which requires an additional antibiotic to get things to clear up completely. Typically I prescribe Metronidazole and this does great to get pets back to normal fast.

Hi there. I suggest you use a probiotic for Bentley. Fortiflora is my favorite but you can use any probiotic made for dogs (no human products or dairy). I would give it daily for one month to see if there are any changes. The probiotic adds "good bacteria" to his intestinal tract that may quiet the gas. So, I suggest you speak to your vet about deworming him. Finally, diet recommendations for dogs with gas is a diet that is highly digestible with low fibre and low fat content. It sounds like your dog has a case of colitis, or an inflammation of the colon, resulting in an increase in the volume and frequency of stools. 

Colitis can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, irritable bowel disease, pancreatitis, a foreign body/blockage and viruses. 

 If your dog’s current treatment does not resolve the diarrhea after a few days he may need a more extensive workout and treatment.
