Why does my dog have diarrhea on and off for days? What should I do?

my dog has had diarrhea on and off for days. he was on diawin, and then today he started up with diarrhea again after having normal poop yesterday and this morning. this is how it came out just now. he’s going in first thing tomorrow, but want some insight as to why it looks like this?

A probiotic like pro-kolin can be added to the diet.
I would definitely recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

It can be an infection or stress related colitis. Sometimes food can do it if it was new bag. Some older dogs can get an inflammatory bowel. With blood and mucous it is best if you have her checked by your vet to get prescription medication to clear it up or manage it since it is not responding to the bland diet

If he is generally still quite active and bright and there are no other signs a part from the blood ( a pic of it would help to give you more advices), I think he could potentially wait until the am to be seen by your local veterinarian.
