My young puppy cries and bites when touched after a fall. Is he hurt?

Puppies can heal quickly so please feel the leg and as long as it feels normal and he doesn’t cry then you can give him a few days to recover. I’d keep him quiet and take him out for potty breaks only for a day or two. If he’s still lame then you’ll need a veterinary exam to determine the cause. I would bring him to be seen by a vet if he still is painful after his nap. They will be able to isolate the source (leg sprain or fracture vs injury to a rib vs. back pain) and get his medication to be more comfortable. If they are worried they may take an x-ray. Hope beau is feeling better soon!

Ideally, I would take him on in. If he is painful enough that he's trying to bite you, getting him in sooner rather than later will get him some relief. If he is still eating and drinking, and he's able to walk comfortably, its reasonable to wait a few days and see if it gets better, and I understand holding off it that makes more sense in your situation, but if its not a financial strain or logistically really difficult, I would go ahead a take him in rather than waiting. Based on his responses he could be in pain. When an animal Berks they are letting you know that something is either painful or fearful to them. I would encourage you to at least get him examined to make sure and absolutely certain that he doesn't have an internal injury that you just may not see on the outside. If he is just fearful it may take them a week or two at the most special if you work with him every day with enjoyable activities and positive reinforcement. Coax him out with some favorable treats and show him extra attention daily. Eventually he will come around, especially if you all had a close bond up until this incident. Best wishes!

I always advise that if an abnormal sign or behavior persists, worsens or other signs develop to always have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian right away. The fall may have caused some soft tissue/bone injuries or even internal injuries that are causing her problems. Also, she could be suffering from something unrelated to the fall. Your vet can examine her after gathering a history and then advise you on diagnostics/treatment. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and x-rays. Good luck
