My Yorkie cries in pain when touched. Should I take him to the vet?

Chronic pain in a three year old Yorkie should definitely be investigated more closely by your primary care vet. Back issues are quite common in small breed dogs, usually related to disk disease in the spinal column. This can be verified with an x-ray. Your vet will also be able to perform a thorough orthopedic exam to try and see if the pain is arising from elsewhere. Pain and be treated with various medications, including anti-inflammatories, opioids, and muscle relaxants. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for dogs in these cases is rest them. This means no more jumping, no more running, and no more rough housing for a couple of weeks to allow for any healing that might be needed. He is probably still sore. If he’s playful and eating I would just give him a few more days to heal. Puppies generally heal quickly. If the pain continues more than another few days or he’s not acting right please take him in for an exam and treatment. I recommend resting Oso for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Pain on extension of the hind legs can be indicative of hip pain, knee pain, spinal pain, or even a soft tissue injury in that area. I would recommend having Coco evaluated by a veterinarian so he/she can perform a complete physical, orthopedic and neurologic exam to better localize his pain. Based on what is found, he/she may then be able to prescribe an anti-inflammatory pain medication to help Coco feel better. I hope this is helpful!

Poor guy. He may have a muculoskeletal injury or even a muscle sprain is possible. It is difficult to say without seeing him walk and examining him. It is best to at least get him examined by your vet before his appt on Thursday. You may not have to postpone it if he checks out ok. I hope that Remmie starts to feel more comfortable soon! I recommend bringing Lexi to the veterinarian to be evaluated. Lexi may have hurt herself but a veterinarian should perform a physical examination. Bandit could have hurt his leg, and he must be in a lot of pain if he's barely eating and laying around. Given his current symptoms, I think it's best if he sees a vet now. I'd take him into one immediately.
