My 7-month-old Pomeranian puppy is coughing and sneezing. What to do?

Citirizine is an antihistamine that can be helpful if a dog has some allergies or even mild airway irritation. If Shero is coughing so much that he is bringing up phlegm and mucus I would start to worry about a respiratory infection that may need treatment with antibiotics. In these little tiny puppies I tend to treat more aggressively since their immune systems are not fully mature and they can't always fight off infections or other illnesses. I also worry that little sick dogs and cats can become hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) if they are not able to keep down their food. This can happen if a puppy is coughing and regurgitates his stomach contents a few too many times. I would get Shero back to a veterinarian since his signs are worsening. It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. I would recommend having Riggs evaluated by a vet since he is so young. Sometimes these infections can be bacterial and quickly wiped out with antibiotics. Others could develop into coughing or pneumonia.

I would recommend Bubba be seen by his veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian will do an exam and may recommend x-rays to better evaluate the infection and help determine the cause.
