My puppy chewed a green beetle. Is it toxic? What symptoms to watch?

Most bugs will not harm a dog if eaten. In general, the more colorful a bug is, the more toxic it may be. Rinse his mouth thoroughly with cool water for at least 15 minutes. Monitor for lethargy, drooling, swelling or pawing at the mouth. See your veterinarian if any of these symptoms develop.

For that reason, Chigger may be just fine. I would recommend that you watch him closely and if he does show symptoms such as decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and/or discomfort have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If Bertie just ate a bee you should monitor him for signs of facial swelling and breathing problems. If you notice that his respiration becomes fast, loud and raspy, you should take him to your local vets as an emergency.

Asian Lady Beetles can release a substance that is irritating to the mouth, but are not considered poisonous. So, if Bella is drooling or foaming at the mouth, she may have ingested some of that substance, but if all appears normal, then I would doubt that she did. We can't even be sure that this particular bug even contacted the chemical. To be safe you can always rinse his mouth out well with water and wash his face. Have a great day!

I am sorry to hear about Jack! In the US there are no millipedes that are considered toxic to dogs but some may produce chemicals that could be distasteful or irritating to a dog's mouth. You can try wiping your dog's face/rinsing his mouth and offering some food to try to get the taste out of his mouth. If he begins vomiting or develops facial swelling/trouble breathing this could be a rare sign of an allergic reaction and he should see a vet right away.

The toxic components in tulips is concentrated in the bulb but is also present (in less concentrated amounts) in the other parts of the plant as well. I think Rocky will be fine but symptoms you would see would be associated with irritation of the mouth and esophagus: drooling and maybe vomiting. If you didn't do so already, flush out his mouth really well. If vomiting occurs I would have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps and I wish Rocky the best!
