My dog licked a millipede. Is it toxic if he's licking his mouth?

Certain toads (Marine Toad or Colorado River Toad) can be toxic if bitten of ingested. You should rinse Ash's mouth out with cool water for at least 15 minutes. Monitor for excessive drooling, redness or swelling in and around her mouth, increased heart rate or ataxia (wobbly gait). Frogs are less toxic than toads and may cause nothing more serious than some drooling and minor stomach upset.

I can't find any information that millipedes are poisonous. They don't bite, so that shouldn't be an issues. However, I have seen some very upset stomachs when pets eat too many insects, so I would try to prevent them from eating too many millipedes at once. Also, if you choose to kill the millipedes, make sure the poison you use is safe for use around cats, and the cats should not eat any millipedes after poison is put out.

This looks like a house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata). If so, it is not deadly. House centipedes do their hunting via a set of venomous front legs. The good news is that they are usually unable to bite/sting through skin. If they are successful, it is not life-threatening, it's supposed to feel a lot like a bee sting. Usually if cats lick/ingest something toxic they will foam at the mouth - if you notice that all you need to do is rinse out her mouth with tap water. Don't shove or force the water down her throat or she could aspirate the water into the lungs. If she was stung by some chance it will likely resolve on it's own. I would only be worried if she actually at the whole thing and even then, it's not toxic; it just may upset her stomach. Hope this helps. If you have more questions please post again.

One lick will likely not put him at risk of serious toxicity. You may see some drooling or minor gastrointestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea). Monitor for lethargy, GI upset or loss of appetite. If necessary, have him examined by your veterinarian

Sometimes it can be bad, but it really depends. They can secrete a toxin that is irritating and sometimes toxic, but it depends on the species and how scared they are at that time (they secrete the toxin more when they are scared). You would know if he got any toxin, because they usually start drooling and constantly licking within a couple of minutes of getting the toxin. If you see this, then wash his mouth out with water using a hose for 5 minutes. The toxin can also make them hallucinate, so he may act a little off; but if he acts very lethargic or has tremors, then he should go to the vet immediately for monitoring and treatment. Good job, you did the right thing to get it out of his mouth and rinse it out. Without knowing the exact beetle I can't tell you for sure it's not toxic but generally they can irritate the mouth but not cause a serious problem. As with all toxins keep watch for vomiting, trouble breathing or facial swelling. Take him in right away if they are any abnormal symptoms. The type of product is not really toxic, especially in small quantities like that. You could see some mild stomach upset or mouth irritation, but that is unlikely. You can try to squirt some water in her mouth to rinse it out. Signs of a problem would be drooling, licking lips, or wanting to eat, but I don’t feel this is likely to,happen.
