Is it safe to give puppies ice cubes to chew on as a cooling treat?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 28 days old | 44 lbs

Can you give puppy ice cubes to chew on? Pharah loves them especially to calm down after playing or walking outside. P.s. love this app, been super helpful since I got my puppy.

Yes, ice can be a perfect treat for your puppy. It can keep her entertained, cool her off, and act as a treat without adding any extra calories to her diet. Just be sure to monitor her while she is chewing on the cubes to make sure she doesn't choke. If she does swallow one too quickly or begin to choke don't panic, remember it's only ice and will most likely melt before causing an issue!

Hi there and thank you for posting your question! Ice cubes are completely safe to give puppies. I would be careful though as some puppies may bite down on the cube too hard and break their baby teeth. Crushed ice might be better for Pharah if she is an aggressive chewer and is biting down too hard on the larger cubes. I'm glad you have found Pet Coach helpful! Sure ice cubes are okay. I would just use a smaller cube or break up a bigger one for a smaller dog or a dog that tends to swallow and not chew to reduce the risk of choking. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

Is it safe to give my dog ice water daily when it's very hot?

I would only place a few ice cubes in the bowl so that your pet doesn’t get a brain freeze type headache. Otherwise it should be fine. Just also keep in mind that keeping your pet in the shade (if left outside), leaving inside of temperatures are above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and providing fans are more effective methods of cooling off your pet. Is it safe for my 10-week-old puppy to have peanut butter in a Kong?

Yes, puppies and dogs can have [peanut butter](https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/peanut-butter). Also, to prevent obesity, treats should make up no more than 10% of the total daily calories. Is cutting puppy treats too small for training? My pup gagged.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! No it isn't bad. too many treats can cause obesity so using smaller pieces helps prevent too many calories as treats. I would just have them eat them slower bu holding the piece in between your fingers for him to nibble and lick then release it. Hopefully slowing it down will prevent gagging from swallowing the treats too quickly. I hope this helps!
