Can my teething puppy safely eat plain yogurt or frozen yogurt treats?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 5 months and 2 days old | 20 lbs

I’ve read different things online. Can a puppy have plain yogurt? My puppy is teething and I was thinking of making frozen pops to soothe his gums. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, puppies can have a small amount of yogurt. I think frozen yogurt pops for this would a great idea. Make sure that the yogurt does not contain the sugar substitute xylitol as that is toxic to dogs. Good luck and have a good day!
