My puppy has a bumpy rash on her face and chest. What should I do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marlo. His belly looks very inflamed and is likely itchy. It is always a good idea to take a new puppy to a veterinarian when you first obtain him. He will need to be examined, started on his vaccinations and deworming. The rash can be addressed as well. It could be a mild allergic reaction, impetigo or even an overgrowth of a mite known as Demodex. The veterinarian will guide you as far as any testing or treatment needed. In the meantime, I recommend bathing him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula for puppies to soothe the skin. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This does not appear to be an emergency. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Based on your description and pictures Rasta could be dealing with a skin allergy. I would recommend starting a shampoo such as Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would also recommend using malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area two to three times per day until resolved. Benadryl can also be used safely and the most common recommended dose that is recommended by most veterinarians is 1 mg per 1 pound of body weight every 12 hours. I hope this helps! I would be concerned enough to have it checked out by a vet. It could be the start of puppy pyoderma (a skin infection), or it could be due to fleas, mites, or allergies. It could be that Harley Moon has an allergic reaction to something outside, could have ringworm, or it could be puppy pyoderma (a skin infection). It's a very good idea to have this seen by a vet this week, and for now, keep an eye on her. If it appears to be itching her, you can can give her an oatmeal bath to see if that helps soothe her skin. I'd also put an Ecollar on her if she starts licking at it. Poor Tank! That rash looks pretty severe. It could be something like an allergic reaction, scabies, flea allergy or a severe case of puppy pyoderma. Because there are several conditions that can look like this and they all require different treatment, I recommend to take Tank in to see his veterinarian. The doctor will examine him and try to determine the cause for all those lesions. It’s likely he will get an anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. There are many underlying diseases that can predispose dogs to these conditions such as hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, and immunosuppression. It is important to have Marley examined by a veterinarian who can perform tests to diagnose the condition and rule out any underlying disease.
