My 10-week-old puppy has a rash. Should I be concerned or see a vet?

I just noticed this rash on my 10 week old puppy should I be concerned?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Magnolia May and for providing a picture, it's very helpful! I would be concerned enough to have it checked out by a vet. It could be the start of puppy pyoderma (a skin infection), or it could be due to fleas, mites, or allergies. Having her seen by a vet will prevent it from getting worse and allow it to be treated. Please give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Magnolia. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian this week as she appears to have a superficial skin infection. It may be secondary to the licking you have described. You need to ensure that she does not have a urinary tract infection that is promoting the licking. If this is not the case, seasonal allergies are common this time of year. In the meantime, prevent her from licking the area and you can try bathing her with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. It could be that Harley Moon has an allergic reaction to something outside, could have ringworm, or it could be puppy pyoderma (a skin infection). It's a very good idea to have this seen by a vet this week, and for now, keep an eye on her. If it appears to be itching her, you can can give her an oatmeal bath to see if that helps soothe her skin. I'd also put an Ecollar on her if she starts licking at it. You can make one at home or you can buy one at a pet store. I hope this helps!

I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I suspect this could be secondary to demodex, which is a type of skin mite. There is likely also a bacterial skin infection that needs to be treated due to the potential primary mite infection. New puppy has whiteheads and puss on her belly. Should I see a vet?

Congrats on your new puppy, but I'm sorry Birdie has a rash. It could be puppy pyoderma based on the appearance of her skin in the pictures and the location of the rash. A puppy's skin is very sensitive, and this is especially true in areas where there is lack of protective covering of hair. Puppy pyoderma is a bacterial skin infection. Treating it requires a course of antibiotics which you do need to see the vet for to get a prescription. I would recommend having her seen by the vet sooner than May 1st for this problem, and I would call the vet in the morning to see if you can get her in sometime this week. Please, take your Charlie to your local vets for an appointment as he will likely need treatment with skin ointment with antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory agent.
