Why is my puppy still bloated & vomiting after coccidia treatment?

Your pup sure is adorable! His belly is most likely bloated because of the intestinal parasites and should go down over the next week. I would make sure he is also being dewormed for more routine intestinal parasites (like roundworms and hookworms) to make sure he is covered. You may notice some softer stool during this time but vomiting and diarrhea should not occur and you should contact your vet if you notice this. I hope this helps. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Puppies tend to have a more bloated belly. Intestinal parasites are usually the main cause of this. Sometimes the intestines are more gassy in puppies too. I would give the dewormer some more time. If there is no improvement by a week i would have her examined and bring a stool sample with you. Sometimes changing puppy food can help as well. She is due for vaccinations so a Vet exam should be happening soon anyway. Good luck!

The bowel looks large and distended indeed, you need to take him back to your vet ASAP in order to get it checked, it might be because of the infection or possibly due to a complication from the surgery.

That is unusual to see excessive urination two days later. I recommend to call his veterinarian and tell them what you are seeing at home. They will likely recommend to recheck Harvey to make sure he’s not having some sort of reaction or a concurrent disease state. These episodes may be related to a mild gastrointestinal inflammation still present, possibly related to previous parasite infection. No need for treatment but gastrointestinal system has to settled down again. As a first approach I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 72hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. I would not expect a dog to continue to vomit after it has finished medication for a parasite, so I would recommend contacting your veterinarian to let them know that Oreo is still vomiting and see what they would recommend next for him. If the medication is not helping Coco it is best to bring him back into your vet ASAP. It is possible there is an issue such as parvo that requires hospitalization and more care, or additional exams or testing needs to be done so the medications can be changed to help him feel better.
