My dog finished parasite meds but is still puking. Is it the parasite?

If Oreo is continually vomiting I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian. Puppies can get sick and decline quickly. This may not be a virus but it can be something he ate. The veterinarian will be able to provide nutritional support and rehydrate Oreo. They can also give medication to stop him from vomiting. Hello. This is very, very unusual. Once a parvo patient recovers, they continue to do well. And, I have never heard of a pup recovering from parvo needing medication for 3 weeks. If Chico had parvo 3 weeks ago, & just started vomiting 4 days ago, it has nothing to do with his previous illness. Something else is going on. Please contact your veterinarian, as he may need to modify whatever medication he prescribed. Six days of straight vomiting is quite concerning, particularly in an older dog like Oreo. Since he just had cataracts removed, I am going to operate under the assumption they probably did some pre-anesthetic blood work and would have told you if they found anything of concern. While four weeks is enough time to elapse for something new to show up, if there was a condition that was somewhere chronic in nature I would have expected at least some mild indicators of disease on this blood work. Given the symptoms have only just begun in the last week, I doubt the antibiotics are the culprit. Vomiting for that length of time in an older dog usually makes me think of foreign object ingestion, kidney / liver disease, or some type of cancer in or around the GI tract. I would recommend diagnostic imaging in the form of x-rays and/or ultrasound to rule in / out certain processes. If nothing is found to explain the vomiting, the doctor may recommend referral for an endoscopy of the upper / lower GI tract. Hope this makes sense.

It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit after medication and generally if it is more then 2 hours after the medication should have worked. As the food was undigested it may not have been absorbed as well as anticipated and it may be worth applying a different type of spot on medication, especially if you are in a heartworm affected area. Contact your local vets office for advice on the local risks and benefits of repeating or not

If your dog vomited more than an hour after the medication was given it is probably OK and in his system. However, if the dog vomited before an hour had passed then you will need to redose your dog with another round of dewormer. This medication is very safe and redosing should not cause a problem. Hello. Sometimes, it just takes a few days for a stomach issue to clear, even with medications. Of course, I do not know what was administered to Woody, but if he continues to vomit despite the proper medications being administered, we do have to be concerned about some underlying metabolic problem or perhaps an ingested foreign object or substance being the cause of his ongoing discomfort. Make sure, if he is eating, you are feeding a very low fat, easily digestible diet. 25% cooked chicken & 75% low fat cottage cheese or plain white rice is appropriate. A couple of teaspoons several times a day may be well tolerated. If after another 24 hours, Woody continues to vomit, you will need to speak with your vet about re-evaluating the situation, doing some blood work & obtaining x-rays to make sure nothing was missed in the initial evaluation of Woody.
