Dog's stomach distended after coccidia and bowel obstruction?

Your pup sure is adorable! His belly is most likely bloated because of the intestinal parasites and should go down over the next week. I would make sure he is also being dewormed for more routine intestinal parasites (like roundworms and hookworms) to make sure he is covered. You may notice some softer stool during this time but vomiting and diarrhea should not occur and you should contact your vet if you notice this. I hope this helps. Poor Coco! That much distension in the stomach can indicate fluid (ascites) in the abdomen or an enlarged abdominal organ like the liver. These problems can develop secondary to heart disease, liver failure, low protein levels, severe GI parasites, and cancer. I'd recommend taking Coco to see a veterinarian right away as he needs blood work and X-rays to know why this is happening. This is a true medical emergency as many of the causes of a distended stomach can be life threatening. Hello, no these symptoms are not typical after finishing a course of treatment for coccidia. It's possible that Maverick has intestinal parasites such as roundworms that would not be treated with the coccidia medication. I would recommend having him seen sooner than Aug 11 if you're worried about him, or you could start by dropping off a fresh fecal sample for your vet to rule out other intestinal parasites and go from there. It definitely does look bloated. It could be from eating a large meal or from intestinal parasites (worms). I would have your vet take a look a him. They will likely want to do a fecal on him to check for worms and if needed, they will deworm him. I hope this helps!

Hi there. This does look a bit odd. Have your veterinarians done any x rays or bloodwork? If Sophie is not spayed and has been sick for a while I would be very concerned with a pyometra (uterine infection) with how distended that abdomen looks. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It does not sound as if Twix is showing symptoms of being sick based on your description. I would bring a fecal sample of Twix's to his veterinarian to ensure that he is clear of intesti nal parasites. Sometimes when puppies engorged themselves on food the belly can become large. To be safe, I would have the stool checked for problems and have Twix examined. Make sure he is not eating too much food to cause his belly to enlarge. I hope this helps! Please understand that we can only give you so much information via the internet without examining Coco ourselves. I can tell you that based on the photos her abdominal distention looks very severe. I don't think this is related to parasites but it could be. I would be worried about ascites (or free fluid in the abdomen). You should get her to a vet as soon as you can for an exam and either an x-ray or ultrasound.
