My puppy has a back lump and is sneezing. What should I do?

My puppy has a sore on his back it's not oozing it's just a small lump I noticed he scratched. He may have a cold as he sneezes. He's an indoor pup and is not exposed to other dogs be has no ticks or fleas. What home remedies can you suggest

It's difficult to know what this is and in-turn how to treat this without seeing the lump, or being able to do an exam. Lumps in puppies are ofter due to infection, trauma, or may be from a vaccination reaction. Many of the causes will resolve on their own within a couple of weeks and does not need any specific treatment. If it's infection, then the lump will increase in size and will appear red. If it does this, or is not resolving within two weeks, then I recommend having him evaluated by a vet, so they can determine the cause and advise on the best treatment.

If Cody is continuously sneezing throughout the day with yellow or greenish discharge, then I would also be suspicious of an upper respiratory infection and recommend taking him to the vet for examination and treatment. If it's one or two sneezes a day and you're not seeing much of the discharge from the nose, then I would not worry too much about it.

If it gets larger, swells or has discharge, he should see a vet. Puppies can also get upper respiratory infections. I would take him to a vet for this to see if he needs antibiotics. I am not sure that the sneezing and the lump are related. I recommend to have her checked out by her veterinarian to examine that lump. Lumps can appear for variety of reasons and it could be unrelated to her stay. You may ask the sitter if there was any hard play or trauma or anything else that might cause a lump to form due to injury. If the doctor is more suspicious of a tumor, you will need to have the mass aspirated in order to know if it is something benign or malignant. The sneezing could be many things including mild infection or allergies. Have the vet take a good listen to her lungs as well as palpate her trachea. Why does my dog have throat lumps, reverse sneezing, and gasping?

If there are lumps on his throat and he is having upper respiratory symptoms, I would recommend having x-rays of his upper airway done to see if there is any compression or deviation of the airway due to one of the lumps. He may also be dealing with allergies, in which case you can try an antihistamine. Most people use 1mg per 1lb of body weight every 12 hours for Benadryl. The vet can also insert a small needle into the masses and examine them under a microscope for a better understanding of what the lumps might be. I hope this helps! My puppy is sneezing, tired, and cranky. Could it be allergies?

Hi there. Sneezing could be caused by allergies, or an upper respiratory infection. If he's acting fairly normal otherwise (eating and drinking fine, active, etc.) you could opt to monitor him for now and see how things go for the next few days. The problem may resolve on its own, similar to when we get a minor cold or allergy flare-up. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if your pup develops other symptoms such as coughing, thick green or yellow nasal discharge, or begins acting very lethargic or not eating, then I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian for treatment.

My 2-month-old puppy has a sudden, non-painful neck lump. What is it?

This lump in your puppy’s skin is probably nothing to worry about. It could be from an insect bite or sting or may be a reaction to a vaccine he had in that area. Keep an eye on it for now. If it becomes larger, painful, or red, then take him to your vet right away. Or if he starts acting lethargic, vomits/has diarrhea or stops wanting to eat, you should take him to be checked out. My dog's cough returned, has a neck lump. Is it from our new puppy?

It sounds like Poppy didn't completely resolve with the medications. I have several questions I would like to ask that may help me be more helpful to you. A consultation may be more beneficial in this situation. However, kennel cough can develop into more concerning problems such as bronchitis or pneumonia similar to how colds can lead to pneumonia in people. There are certainly other causes of cough as well, such as heart worm disease or parasites. The addition of another puppy also increases my suspicion of infectious or parasite causes. An x-ray of her lungs, fecal exam looking for parasites, or possibly longer term antibiotic therapy may be needed. The lump on the neck may or may not be related but should be evaluated. Please consider either a consultation or call your veterinarian to discuss the Poppy's recent changes.

It could be an infection, inflammation, tumor, etc. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine the best treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or other medications depending on the cause.
