My 2-month-old puppy has a sudden, non-painful neck lump. What is it?

In a young dog these are often a little cyst or a mass known as a histiocytoma. These may grow a little bigger, but eventually go away on their own after a couple of months. I think it would fine to just monitor this for now. If grows rapidly, or breaks open, or has any other dramatic changes, then it's best to have your vet examine Capone in order to definitively diagnose the cause of this and provide the necessary treatment. Hello, thank you for your question about Skurge. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be suspicious that this lump could be an abscess, or an infection. Dogs get abscesses in their neck area not uncommonly often secondary to trauma or bad dental disease (less likely in your puppy). I would recommend having Skurge seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine the area and discuss additional treatments. Hope this helps, good luck!

I am sorry Cooper has a lump over his neck! it is hard to say exactly what the cause is without examining Cooper first, but if he recently had a vaccine in that area, it may be an inflammatory reaction due to the vaccine that was given. There are other causes as well much as a small tumor or other mass. I would recommend Cooper see his veterinarian for a closure inspection and to have a sample of the mass taken to determine what it is and if it needs to be removed or not. From the location my best guess would be an enlarged lymph node - this could be confirmed on a physical exam performed by your vet. Lymph nodes are where his immune system is stored and can become enlarged when Luicus is fighting an infection, or inflammation. It may be best to have him examined tomorrow to check he's not running a fever.

If your dog has recently been vaccinated, this lump could be a vaccine granuloma and will go away on its own. However since the lump has grown quickly, you may want to have it healed out by your veterinarian. The vet can do a fine needle aspirate of the lump and look at the cells under a microscope and then may be able to determine what is causing the lump. I hope this helps. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
