My puppy has a cheek lump and snorts in the morning. What to do?

It's difficult to know what this is and in-turn how to treat this without seeing the lump, or being able to do an exam. Lumps in puppies are ofter due to infection, trauma, or may be from a vaccination reaction. Many of the causes will resolve on their own within a couple of weeks and does not need any specific treatment. If it's infection, then the lump will increase in size and will appear red. If it does this, or is not resolving within two weeks, then I recommend having him evaluated by a vet, so they can determine the cause and advise on the best treatment. If Cody is continuously sneezing throughout the day with yellow or greenish discharge, then I would also be suspicious of an upper respiratory infection and recommend taking him to the vet for examination and treatment. If it's one or two sneezes a day and you're not seeing much of the discharge from the nose, then I would not worry too much about it. I hope that helps and Cody gets better soon.

Either way, this is likely to resolve with local treatment if the infection is confirmed. I think it would be ok to wait until next week as long as it starts resolving and healing on its own as sometimes these do resolve again if that is what it is. It could be an infection, inflammation, tumor, etc. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine the best treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or other medications depending on the cause.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gunner! The nasal congestion and snorting may mean there is inflammation, infection or new bleeding or a mass in his nose. Thrombocytopenia sadly can be triggered by cancer somewhere in the body. The lump on his neck, if it is under his jaw or below his ear could be a lymph node. It could be big from draining his nose or from cancer. These symptoms could be appearing as the Pred is weaned because at the higher doses it was suppressing them. If Gunner is lethargic and has new symptoms I highly recommend you have him looked at today. Hopefully your Vet is still open and can see him today

It looks like this lump could simply be a benign tumor, but that's impossible to say without seeing the dog in person. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'd give your dog's vet a call to set up an appointment for sometime this week. I hope this helps!

I am not sure that the sneezing and the lump are related. I recommend to have her checked out by her veterinarian to examine that lump. Lumps can appear for variety of reasons and it could be unrelated to her stay. You may ask the sitter if there was any hard play or trauma or anything else that might cause a lump to form due to injury. If the doctor is more suspicious of a tumor, you will need to have the mass aspirated in order to know if it is something benign or malignant. The sneezing could be many things including mild infection or allergies. Have the vet take a good listen to her lungs as well as palpate her trachea. If there are lumps on his throat and he is having upper respiratory symptoms, I would recommend having x-rays of his upper airway done to see if there is any compression or deviation of the airway due to one of the lumps. He may also be dealing with allergies, in which case you can try an antihistamine. Most people use 1mg per 1lb of body weight every 12 hours for Benadryl. The vet can also insert a small needle into the masses and examine them under a microscope for a better understanding of what the lumps might be. I hope this helps!
