My puppy ate a shoe sponge and vomited. Should I be worried now?

This is pretty big, it might cause problems either in the stomach if it stays there or in the intestines (blockage). You will need to monitor him for vomiting? Constipation and lack of appetite, if you see any of these symptoms- take him to the vet ASAP.

Luckily sponges are soft and can be moved more easily in the intestines, but this is concerning for a possible gastrointestinal impaction. It's not toxic though, so if it passes, then they should not cause any problems. Signs of an impaction include vomiting, not defecating, and depression/pain. If you notice any of this, then you should take Lucy to a vet immediately. Otherwise, the sponges should pass in the stool in the next 3-5 days. I hope that helps and all is well with Lucy.

You can try to give a him a small amount of milk to neutralize some of the acid in the cleaners as it can burn the esophagus and stomach and has potential to cause ulcers depending on how much he ingested. If he continues to vomit or have dark or bloody stool, then he needs to be seen.

Regardless of eating the sock or not, he is still vomiting, so I would recommend taking him to a vet right away. He is young and a lot of vomiting can cause dehydration that puppies cannot recover from on their own. The vet may want to check for intestinal parasites and parvo virus (common causes of vomiting in puppies) and may also take an x-ray to look for a foreign object in the intestinal tract. If no cause for vomiting is found, the doctor can treat the vomiting and replace the fluids Shiro has lost so he doesn't get sicker. If he only vomited the one time, then I would continue to see how things go. If he continues to vomit and develops other symptoms such as refusal to eat, vomiting up water, or becoming lethargic, then I would definitely worry about a foreign body obstruction and get him seen right away. Poor girl. Let her vomit. If she vomits up the particles well then that is a good thing. However if she tries to vomit and cannot produce anything, or if she continues to vomit liquids and refuses food, then this is concerning for a potential blockage and she should be taken to your vet right away. So monitor her for the next 24-48 hrs for any signs of a blockage which includes: excessive vomiting (even water), refusing food, few feces, +/- abdominal pain, and lethargy. If she doesn't have any of these symptoms and can keep her food down well, then she is likely to be just fine. However for the future you should try to keep these harmful things out of her reach, because puppies are very curious and will put almost anything in their mouths, not realizing how harmful they can be.

Oh dear! Puppies often chew things they shouldn't, unfortunately. If Ruben did swallow some of the foam, the biggest risk is that it could get stuck in his stomach or intestines and cause a blockage. Or, it may pass through his system with no problems at all. I would keep a close eye on him for the next 2-3 days. As long as he's eating and drinking, acting normal, and having regular bowel movements, you shouldn't need to worry. If he stops eating, has any vomiting, or does not have a bowel movement for more than 24 hours, then I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and x-rays since these can be signs of a blockage.
