My puppy ate a rubber earplug. What are the risks and what to do?

Oh that was naughty of Derek! There is a chance it could pass without problem, and I would just have him seen by a vet tomorrow. If he ate it within the past two hours, the vet may think it's safe to induce him to vomit it up, so you do have the option of calling a vet now about having him seen to get a shot to induce vomiting. That would prevent any chance of an obstruction. Likely, it will pass without problem, but just in case, I will give you the signs of an obstruction. They include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. You can monitor him for those signs, and keep in mind that it can take up to 72 hours for it to pass. Hopefully, Derek will be just fine :-)

I would feed Chewy 1/2 slice of bread twice a day, in between meals to help bind up the earring and then monitor the stools. Typically it can take 2-7 days for foreign objects to exit. Monitor him for signs of trouble which includes excessive vomiting, abdominal pain, lack of appetite and little to no stools. If you see these signs then it's best to take him in to your vet for abdominal x-rays to see if it is lodged somewhere and further treatment. But as o said it likely will pass. Oh dear! Puppies often chew things they shouldn't, unfortunately. If Ruben did swallow some of the foam, the biggest risk is that it could get stuck in his stomach or intestines and cause a blockage. Or, it may pass through his system with no problems at all. I would keep a close eye on him for the next 2-3 days. As long as he's eating and drinking, acting normal, and having regular bowel movements, you shouldn't need to worry. If he stops eating, has any vomiting, or does not have a bowel movement for more than 24 hours, then I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and x-rays since these can be signs of a blockage.

Thank you for providing a picture of something like the ear Bandit ate, it's really helpful. Given that he swallowed it last night, I'd just monitor him for now. Do not give him any more olive oil, it will not help and because it's an oil and so fatty, it can cause him to have pancreatitis. It's good that he's acting normally, and he is a bigger dog, so this may pass without issue. Monitor him for vomiting, diarrhea, blood in the stool, lethargy, and a loss of appetite.
