My puppy ate rubber from a toy. When will I know if it's a problem?

The only thing you should do right now is to monitor her for any signs of an obstruction which includes: excessive vomiting (especially water), decreased appetite, lethargy and little to no stool production. This sounds like something that should pass through with no problems, but just keep an eye on here tonight and definitely get her seen by a vet tomorrow if she develops any concerning symptoms. You can also try feeding her a piece of bread 1-2 times a day to help bind up the rubber and help facilitate its passage through her GI tract. Hello Joy, Unfortunately, there is no way for us to tell you if she will pass these parts with no problem. There are too many variables involved. Some dogs do pass these things and sometimes they get stuck in the GI tract somewhere. I suggest you have her to your vet for an exam. That is your best option. They can x-ray her and see if there are any abnormal items in her stomach. If you don't want to take her in now, then monitor her closely for: * not eating * vomiting * lethargy If any of those are noticed she needs to see a vet ASAP.

If the rubber pieces were small there is a good chance they will pass through without causing an obstruction, If the hacking sound continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. It could be related to the rubber toy or may be caused by a different problem. He could have a respiratory infection causing him to cough.
