My 4-month-old puppy has thin poop and ate cat litter. Is she okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 12 days old | 30 lbs

Got a puppy at 15 weeks old. Came from home on well water. No change in food. Great for first few days ,now has diarrhea. Not bloody dark color, not watery, just thin. Her appetite is fine,no fever and not acting sick. I have added pumpkin and white rice and last night she did great. Didn't add as much pumpkin and white rice and she is pooping thin again; however she has discovered the cat litter box and I found small amount of litter grain in her poop. She is up to date on all shots except 6 mo

She could have an intestinal parasite so you should take a stool sample to your vet for testing. It is common for puppies to have intestinal parasites. Your vet can prescribe a dewormer if the test comes back positive.
