My puppy ate cat poop, now sick: vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weak.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 16 days old | 20 lbs

My 6 month old puppy is sick she has been caught eating cat poop from the litter box and I think it has made her sick. For 2 days now she won't eat or drink water she has had bloody diarrhea and been vomiting she don't even want to get off her bed. She is acting very week like she is during what can I do for her. I don't have the money to take her to a vet. Please help me

It sounds as Layla is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. Even if no parasites are obviously observed in the feces, parasites can still be present. I recommend that you have Layla evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

While it is possible there may be a zoonotic (transmissible to humans and animals) bug floating around your house, I would say it is probably unlikely. Certain bacteria like Salmonella and E.Coli and certain viruses can be transmissible from animal to people and vice versa, however there may be another cause for Layla's frequent vomiting such as a gastrointestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, organ dysfunction, or certain types of cancers. I would strongly recommend Layla see her veterinarian for an exam an evaluation. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and x-rays to help determine a cause.

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese.
