My puppy ate a baby enema. Should I give him water to flush it out?

A baby enema is not a good idea, it will most likely do nothing. Constipation can be a very serious condition, it can be caused by a physical blockage (foreign body like a bone) or a functional peristalsis deficiency of the intestines. In order to treat simple constipation, you should increase the fibers in the food (e.g. canned pumpkin) and can add a little mineral oil to the diet. I strongly advise taking your dog to the vet in order to check if there is a serious condition causing the constipation first.

A good first step would be to bring in a fecal sample to your regular vet. This can help check for some of the most common causes of diarrhea such as some bacteria and parasites. If the fecal is normal, a more thorough workup checking for any GI issues, food allergies, etc can help narrow down possible causes to get Cocoa feeling better.

Dogs will eat the dumbest things sometimes! If he's eaten only little pieces of it, likely they will pass without problem. Little bits of things typically pass in the feces within a couple of days, and sometimes even big things will pass. Should you want to be 100% safe, yes you can take Charlie into the ER vet to have vomiting induced, which would guarantee no problems will occur. Hi, if the wrapper has been thorn into pieces it will probably pass through his gastro intestinal tract together with other food. If it was a large piece swollowed as whole, there is the risk of obstruction and you need to monitor him closely for any vomiting or diarrhoea or straining to go to the toilet or abdominal pain. Poor Baby Girl! Constipation can be common in puppies, and I recommend diluting the puppy milk and feeding her more frequently in smaller amounts. If this doesn't help and she is still constipated in 24-48 hours, then I would take her into the vet for treatment. Please do not give her a human enema, they contain ingredients that can be toxic to puppies.

Make sure you are simulating her to poop. Puppies this young cannot defecate without this. (Rub the anus gently for 10-20 seconds with a warm wet cloth/paper towel.) This needs to be done before or after every feeding (about every 2 hours). If that is not working within 8 hours, you need to see a vet. Do NOT attempt an enema on a puppy this small. Also make sure you’re feeding the puppy mild replacer EXACTLY as directed on the can. Diluting it or feeding too little can cause problems. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Topani!
