My puppy has a 103F fever. Should I separate him or go to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pup has fever. should he be separated from the litter or is it ok for them to be together? His temperature is 103F and I've been giving him water and cooling his paws, should i bring him immediately to the vet or wait and observe?

A fever is very concerning, especially in a pup this young. I would have him seen as soon as possible to figure out the source of the fever. There are many causes of fever, but certainly infection would be a consideration, and quite worrisome, in a pup this young. Separating him from the litter is likely a good idea until you know for sure the cause. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
