Pug eye ulcer looks worse after meds. Is it healing or an emergency?

Based on this picture, that looks like a fairly superficial corneal ulceration. Oral antibiotics are not the treatment for this sort of issue, as direct ophthalmic medications will be required. The treatment will be aimed at preventing secondary infection,, reducing inflammation / pain, and mending the corneal surface. Otis will also need to wear a cone to make sure that he doesn't try and scratch at the eye and make matters worse for himself. This issue is not life-threatening, but the ulcer will definitely get worse if it is not treated quickly and properly, particularly if he is the kind of dog that will bother at it. If you've been to the vet already, he may have put a stain in the eye and then looked with a special light to see the actual depth of the ulcer. He will be able to tell you if the ulcer is actually superficial or if goes deeper than it appears in the picture. Hope this all makes sense.

If the ulcer doesn't seem to be healing fast enough you should take Spike back to your vet, they should prepare some serum to put in his eye every 2-3 hours (serum is prepared from whole blood, it can be from your dog or from another dog). serum is considered the best non invasive treatment for eye ulcers.

These could be a signs of a corneal ulceration. I would recommend an immediate check up as Pugs are particularly predisposed to a type of ulcer called ''melting ulcer'', which is a particularly nasty type and could deteriorate very rapidly. Ouch, poor Peaches! Yes, it does look like she could have an ulcer. I would take her into a vet immediately. This is something that needs to be examined by a vet now so it can be treated right away. Ulcers can be very serious, and if left untreated, they can lead to permanent vision loss. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. You won't know how it is healing just by looking. We used lights, special stain, and small magnifiers to get a really good look at the eye. Blue appearance means that the cornea is swollen. Red in the white part of the eye is inflammation, which is normal. Red in other parts of the eye may not be normal. Definitely keep your appointment on Saturday. Also, if they didn't give you one, I recommend wearing an e-collar, since dogs often will rub their eyes when there is discomfort, and this rubbing can delay healing.

From the photos, my main suspicion is that at some point, Frodo developed a corneal ulcer or abrasion that has resulted in inflammation on the surface of the eye, followed by chronic scarring changes, such as pigmentary keratitis. With a thorough eye exam, your vet will be able to determine if any active corneal ulcers are present, check Frodo's eye pressure and tear production to determine if any other issues are present.
