My dog has an eye ulcer. I'm scared, what should I do right now?

It looks like Dylan may have a melting ulcer or a descemetocoele, which is a serious problem that can result in loss of the eye. I would take him to your veterinarian right away as this would constitute an ocular emergency.

Hello, thank you for your question about Brownie. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be very suspicious that Brownie could have an ulcer on his eye. Ulcers require treatment with topical antibiotics and pain medications. I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian so that they can stain the eye and confirm the presence of the ulcer and prescribe the needed medications. Additionally, an important aspect of treatment is preventing Brownie from rubbing/scratching at his eye. If possible please use an e-collar to prevent him from causing further damage. I suspect this a corneal ulcer but it is hard to be sure without full clinical examination. The right eye does not look as bad but there is also abnormal looking cornea. Please, take Rey to your local vets taking all the necessary precautions against Covid-19. She should be seen by a vet right away.

It looks like Pebbles most likely has an ulcer on her cornea. Most of the times these are caused by trauma (being scratched by another animal, bumping the into something, plant material, etc.). These can be serious and get worse very quickly. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian to have it checked and start treatment right away.

Hello, if Starsky were to have a corneal ulcer, this is a serious condition that requires immediate treatment by a vet. Most ulcers that are treated promptly improve with basic supportive care such as pain meds, eye drops, and potentially serum drops (your vet may take a blood sample from your dog, spin it down to remove red blood cells, and send the remaining serum with you to be putting drops in Starsky's eye). However, if you postpone his vet visit, the ulcer could get larger and deeper, could even perforate the cornea and cause permanent blindness, or require a corneal graft surgery to heal, or even require complete removal of the eye. It is definitely in the best interest of both Starsky and you (from a financial perspective) to get his eye treated ASAP. Hope this helps!

Snoopy has to see a vet immediately. This ulcer needs to be cleaned in a sterile manner, and may need be sutured to help it heal. Please do not give him any more of your daughter's penicillin. It's never safe or recommended to self treat your animal, and you could be giving him an incorrect dose that may do harm to him. This will be painful to him, and he likely needs pain medications to treat this. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Snoopy needs to see a vet now for this for treatment and safe medications. Please bring him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.

It appears that there is a severe corneal ulcer on the left eye but hard to say for sure for the right eye. The ulcer appears to be a melting ulcer, which is quite severe. These eyes need the care of an eye specialist and further treatment. Many times, drops alone won't be enough to treat the eye. I would consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
