My pregnant Rottie has pink discharge and is tired. Is this normal?

I would be very concerned about her, she appears very unwell and weak and this could put both her and pregnancy at risk. I would be afraid of a serious infection possibly from the mating ir a viral disease such as distemper. She needs urgent fluid therapy for rehydration and an ultrasound exam and blood tests to assess the health if the pups and also Indra

Unfortunately, a uterine infection can become a common secondary issue with what you are describing. I would recommend having her re-checked by her regular veterinarian to ensure that everything is improving, and she wouldn't need to be spayed to resolve the issue. Good luck!

With these symptoms I worry that your dog may have a pyometra instead of being pregnant. Pyometras typically develop around 3-6 weeks after they go into heat and present as bloody discharge, lethargy, abdominal swelling, etc. I would recommend that she is seen by a veterinarian who can perform an ultrasound to make sure she isn't suffering from an infection.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. She could have had a vaginal as opposed to a uterine infection causing the discharge you observed. I would discuss the use of Baytril with your veterinarian if you have not done so already. It is known to cause cartilage deformities so is generally not indicated during pregnancy or with young growing puppies. Hopefully this was already explained to you though. Any discharge when pregnant is concerning and i would recommend a vet check as soon as possible to rule out infection or early labor/puppy loss. The lameness may or may not be related and should also be assessed, to minimise pain and discomfort.

The first heat cycle can start anywhere from 9-13 months of age in a dog her size. Then the dog will cycle roughly every 9 months. It will be a red to brown to pink colored discharge. If she finished her last heat cycle 2-3 months ago, she could have discharge from a uterine infection known as a pyometra. In this case, the discharge would be foul smelling and look more like pus. Lastly, she could have a urinary tract infection. Unless she is starting her heat cycle, she will need to see her veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

Hi there. It can be normal to have a small amount of vulva discharge, but not a lot. If she is having a lot of fluid then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible as she may have an infection or a deceased fetus. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
