My pregnant Yorkie cries when moving. Is this normal during pregnancy?

Generally you cannot feel the puppies moving until the last one to two weeks of the pregnancy and at this point in her pregnancy, you are not expected to be able to feel the puppies. Death of the puppies unfortunately is a potential cause and an abdominal ultrasound will quickly be able to detect if the puppies are alive or not if you are worried. Go ahead and start limiting her jumping. As she gets larger she will get more uncomfortable and the jumping is not likely good for her. Pain on extension of the hind legs can be indicative of hip pain, knee pain, spinal pain, or even a soft tissue injury in that area. I would recommend having Coco evaluated by a veterinarian so he/she can perform a complete physical, orthopedic and neurologic exam to better localize his pain. Based on what is found, he/she may then be able to prescribe an anti-inflammatory pain medication to help Coco feel better. I hope this is helpful!

With these symptoms I worry that your dog may have a pyometra instead of being pregnant. Pyometras typically develop around 3-6 weeks after they go into heat and present as bloody discharge, lethargy, abdominal swelling, etc. I would recommend that she is seen by a veterinarian who can perform an ultrasound to make sure she isn't suffering from an infection.

This does not seem normal but I don't have a good explanation for it, and I would recommend rechecking with your vet. She could have a uterine infection or inflammation, or other post partum problems and blood work might be recommended as the next step.

It could be that Bailey is getting ready to go into labor. Dogs often lose their appetite before giving birth, but it is concerning that she is crying. It may be labor pains, however. I would monitor her, and take her temperature rectally. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. Once it drops below 100F, she will deliver puppies within 24 hours. Should 24 hours pass after the temperature drop with no sign of puppies, Bailey will need to see a vet immediately.

This sounds very concerning and obviously Paris has a painful stomach. Since she is an intact female there is always a chance that she has a uterine infection which would need urgent surgery, ie her uterus would need to be removed. A uterine infection can be lethal. If she is also drinking more water than usual, if there is maybe some discharge from her vulva, this would be pointing to a uterine infection (pyometra). She could also be suffering from serious intestinal parasite infection, pancreatitis, liver disease and ascites. All these conditions are serious and your dog needs to be seen by a veterinary doctor. Unfortunately it is not possible to make a diagnosis just on the basis of "hard stomach". Paris will need a "hands-on exam".
