You will not be able to feel the puppies heartbeat as they are too deep inside the mother. You can generally expect to feel movement from a large litter earlier than a smaller litter. You may begin to feel movement up to two weeks before the due date. If she only has a single puppy however you may not be able to feel much movement as the puppy will be deep inside her body. An ultrasound can detect the puppies heartbeat after 22 days from the breeding and a radiograph can see the skeletons 45 days after the breeding. You should be really careful pressing her abdomen as you could inadvertently damage a puppy/her uterus. If Kailyn seems well in herself and is eating and drinking I would not stress her out by taking her to the vets. If she seems to be in pain, showing signs of illness or has any smelly discharge then AI would take her in for a check up. I wouldn't worry overly about not feeling movement, it would not be that normal to feel the puppies moving, you would have to press quite hard. If you are concerned you could arrange to take her in for an ultrasound exam to check their health. However this could stress her a lot. If she is well in herself I would urge you not to worry too much. I know it is a really concerning time, but dogs are amazing, and they do really well naturally. It is best for her to have minimum stress.

Sometimes you can feel the puppies move but in some dogs you can't, it depends if your dog is large, fat or lean and it is usually possible toward the last trimester only (more than 50 days of pregnancy).

It is possible that this is a false pregnancy, but the only way to really tell is with an x-ray or ultrasound exam. At this point of her pregnancy it may be difficult to feel individual puppies, especially due to size of the puppies & if this is a rather large litter. An increased respiratory rate could be a direct result of her pregnancy putting increased pressure on her diaphragm. I think it is well worth an x-ray to know how many puppies are there. If he belly wasn't big and she was producing milk she could be experiencing a false pregnancy. I would count back to when she was in heat. Dogs are pregnant for about 63 days. They do have a temperature drop most of the time BUT not always. It usually drops below 99 a few hours to 1 day before the start of labor. Dogs can start to product milk up to a week to a few days before labor. It is hard to feel the puppies move. If you want to confirm the number of puppies make a Vet appointment to have an X-ray taken to count the skeletons. Since she is so small it is good to talk to your Vet in case you run in to complications where you may require their help with delivery or a C-section. My guess is that she is due very soon, less than 7 days. I hope this helps!

I wouldn't worry yet. A dog's pregnancy can last up to 68 days. If Jenny reaches 69 days of pregnancy with no signs of going into labor, then I would be concerned and you will need to have her see a vet immediately.
