My dog is suddenly clingy and cries after mating. Is she pregnant?

If Coochie is not neutered and they mated then yes your female dog is very likely pregnant. Coochie crying and acting this way because your female is in heat. He likely isn't sick and will return to normal once she is out of heat. Good luck!

Hello, sorry to hear about Snowy. Yes occasionally female dogs may have increased attention demands after their heat cycle. However, some of these similar signs may be seen with a false pregnency. If the signs do not resolve in 3-5 days then she should be seen by her veterinarian so that they may rule out a flase pregnency. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is a possibility but dogs can also have fake pregnancies- all the signs of a pregnancy but with no fetuses. I recommend taking her to a vet for an exam. They can take an X-ray 45 days after mating or look sooner with an ultrasound. Good luck and kisses to Luna!

Hello, sorry to hear about Bella. Dogs may indeed sense a change in people which can than indirectly affect their behaviors. However, I would recommend having Bella evaluated as she may herself be undergoing a false pregnancy. This could cause behavioral changes in her as well. Since your dog was recently in heat and is now showing signs of illness I would recommend having her checked out by your veterinarian as soon as possible. She may be pregnant, having another false pregnancy, or may have a life-threatening infection in her uterus called pyometra. The mounting may simulate be dominance behavior and likely is unrelated to mating or pregnancy. It is too early to determine if she is indeed pregnant or not. You will need to have her physically examined by your veterinarian in about 4 weeks. At that time, your vet can confirm pregnancy via palpation, blood test or abdominal x-ray or ultrasound. The vomiting may be unrelated as well. If it was just once and she is behaving normally now, there is likely no cause for concern. If she continues to vomit, have her seen sooner by your veterinarian.

Hello. It is tough to tell without an x-ray or ultrasound exam. It is very possible that the male still had viable sperm in his reproductive tract ( sperm can remain viable for 3-4 weeks in the accessory sex glands of a recently neutered male ).
