My dog ate 60g of chocolate. Should I be worried and what to do?

The toxic dose for milk chocolate is about 5g per each pound of body weight. So, your Stella would have to eat about 70g of milk chocolate before we would recommend any treatment. She should be fine, I don't expect she will develop any concerning symptoms at all

You can expect mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite). The amount is not enough to cause serious toxicity in a 15lb dog, but you should still monitor for tremors, increased heart rate, hyperactivity or seizures. Minor GI upset can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Ideally, Mojito should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Either can induce vomiting if the ingestion has happened in the last two hours, then administer activated charcoal to further inhibit absorption.

The toxicity depends on how much chocolate Napolean actually ate. Figure out how much chocolate Napolean actually ate. I would recommend to call the Pet Poison Control hotline: 855-764-7661. They can calculate the amount that Napoleon ate and accurately tell you if it is toxic or not. Milk chocolate is generally less toxic which is what it sounds like Napoelon got into. According to the VCA website: Toxic doses of theobromine are reported to be as low as 20 mg/kg, where agitation, hyperactivity and gastrointestinal signs (such as drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea - all which may smell like chocolate) can be seen. Now its just figuring out how much chocolate Napoleon ate. I hope this helps!

I’m sorry your pups got into the chocolate. I’m glad it was a relatively small amount. If your tiny Yorkie mix ate all that chocolate he could potentially have some adverse effects including increased heart rate and vomiting, diarrhea. The larger dog would likely have much more mild, if any, signs, such as intestinal upset. If there s a chance the smaller dog ate all of the chocolate or if either is showing signs of aggitation, I would bring him to your vet ASAP. For a 60 lb dog, Olive would need to eat More than 10oz of pure dark chocolate for there to be severe effects. That would be more than 6 servings of this product or about half the bag. Moderate side effects will be seen at 7 or more oz of dark chocolate. Olive will most likely experience some stomache upset mostly because of the mango. However, if she has vomiting or diarrhea that persists for more than 24 hours or if she becomes inappetent or lethargic, she will need to be seen by a veterinarian right away.

Toxicity is based on type of chocolate and the weight of the amount eaten. Watch fro tummy upset: vomit, diarrhea, lethargy, not want to eat. I wish you and Moose the best!
