Is peroxide or filtered water safe for my dog's conjunctivitis?

Considering the pictures you uploaded this seems a mild conjunctivitis that could potentially resolve spontaneously. I would recommend just wipe the discharge gently with a wet cotton swab and apply some simple sterile saline solution (you can buy ocular ones over the counter). If the signs do not resolve in 3 days a check up would be required though as antibiotic eye drops may be needed.

That is a lot of discharge in Razzy's eyes! Rinsing out his eyes will saline is a good idea. By salt water I assume thats what you mean. If it is not, do not use salt water in his eyes as this will cause more irritation. In general, if you see the discharge present for more than 3-5 days and the saline rinse is not making it better, then usually an antibiotic eye drop is needed. Sometimes dogs just get infections, sometimes it is related to allergies and other times it is related to a scratch on the cornea. The veterinarian may recommend to use a special dye in his eyes to look for any injuries to the cornea. Continue to rinse his eyes daily and protect them from scratching by using an elizabethan collar if Razzy is rubbing at them. Make an appointment with his veterinarian in the next few days. Poor Carly! Conjunctivitis can be uncomfortable, so I'm sorry to hear she is having issues with her eyes! Unfortunately there isn't much over the counter you can use. You can safely use eye saline (contact lens saline) to gently flush out her eye in case there is any microscopic debris causing the inflammation. It is possible that Carly has a scratch on her cornea as well, which can be mistaken for conjunctivitis. I would be concerned about a scratched cornea if her eye is quite red and if she is squinting. Most cases of conjunctivitis require a prescription antibiotic ointment or solution that is applied topically in the eye. I also like elizabethan collars on dogs with eye issues, as they often will paw at their eyes and make any eye issue worse. If it doesn't improve with a little saline flushing, I would recommend you take Carly in to see your vet to make sure it isn't a scratch and get some topical medication. By definition, conjunctivitis is simply an inflammation of the conjunctival membranes in the eye. Usually this appears as redness and swelling of these associated tissues. Often, conjunctivitis is paired with scleritis and corneal ulceration. While anyone can simply look at the eye and plainly see that it is red and inflamed, the most important thing is to make sure that the corneal is not ulcerated. A staining solution has to be placed on the surface of the eye, and then a cobalt blue light is utilized to determine if there are any scratches. The reason we do this prior to treating is because the choice of medication differs considerably if there is versus isn't an ulcer present. The eye medication can not include a steroid if there is an ulcer or it will make things worse or delay the healing process considerably. Hope this helps.

If you just need to remove the eye discharge, you can put warm water on a cotton ball and gently wipe the inside corner of the eye. If the discharge quickly returns or you notice discharge in the eye as well, you can use any sterile saline eye wash made for humans. If the discharge is not resolving after a couple of day or is getting worse at any point, then I would have your veterinarian recheck the eye and determine if any medication is needed to resolve the problem. It appears to be mildly inflamed. You can rinse it with saline eye was hand apply a warm compress to help. If you notice a mucous discharge or he does not want to hold it open, then it will need to be seen by your vet for prescription eye drops

I woulIt sounds as your dog is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.d not recommend to clean it with salt water.
