My one-month-old puppy is vomiting after milk. What should I do?

Poor Blue! Small breed young puppies are delicate and they are extremely prone to low blood sugar if they don’t eat well. This condition can be fatal. There are many causes for vomiting including worms, change in diet, bacteria over growth and Parvo. I recommend to have Blue seen today by his veterinarian. It’s very important to get these little puppies eating and not vomiting to avoid low blood sugar. The doctor will need to run some tests to determine the cause. Offer him boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice. This is a bland diet which can help to settle his stomach. Smaller, more frequent meals are better than two large ones. It sounds like Leo is sick and I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian. Pets can develop diarrhea and vomiting due to many conditions including new food or treats, bacterial over growth, viral infections, parasites or other even organ disease. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the new food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin and I recommend to feed this brand. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Vaccinations are required at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks of age. Your vet will tell you what vaccines are required in your country and area. Deworming is required every 2 weeks from the age of 2 weeks old, to 3 months old, and then monthly. As wonderful that it is that your family is vegetarian, dogs are not. Some diets that are vegetarian can be dangerous to dogs as they don't get some of the nutrients they required. I recommend that you get a dog kibble for Leo that is well balanced, and you can add vegetables to this if you like. Especially as a growing puppy, just rice and milk is NOT ok. They need a diet that has the proper nutrients in the right ratios. Please get a good quality puppy food. Best of luck with Leo! Have fun with him!

If Leo is vomiting 2-4x a week routinely I would be concerned because this is not normal for dogs. In the pictures you provided it looks like the food is not fully digested. I would be worried about gastritis, a blockage, or irritable bowel disease. My best recommendation is to take Leo to the vet so the issue can be sorted out. They may recommend lab work and x-rays. I would be concerned about a few different problems including a persistent right aortic arch (PRAA), or a sliding hiatal hernia. These are congenital malformations that can cause vomiting/regurgitation especially after eating. I would try to get a video of the episodes to see if it is true vomiting vs. regurgitation as this will help narrow down possibilities. It is not normal for him to vomit that much. In that case as long as he vomited only one time then you should just monitor him and make sure he still has good appetite, if he vomited more than once then he is probably suffering from a gastrointestinal infection and will need to see a vet as soon as possible.
