Why does my older dog's chest shake when she's just resting?

He really should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an issue with his heart and your vet can take an x-ray of his chest, run an EKG, and/or an ultrasound of his heart to diagnose and then determine if treatment is needed. it is difficult to know the cause without having an examination by a vet.

If Shadow is shaking and it seems to be coming from his chest I would take him to the vet asap. It could be a sign that he is in pain or he could be suffering from something such as a chest infection.

Shaking could be caused by stress, pain, or anxiety. I'd recommend having her seen by a veterinarian for a physical exam. They may have diagnostic recommendations like blood work or xrays to investigate a medical cause.

Hi there. So sorry that Kage is having this issue. Based on your description it sounds like seizure activity or a pain response (orthopedic pain like arthritis). I suggest you video an episode if it happens again so you can show your vet. Did the vet just examine him or was any testing done? If no blood testing was done that should be the next step. If the blood testing is normal then your vet can prescribe an anti-seizure medication or pain medication (depending on what they think after seeing the video) that will likely help. Hope this helps. There are many things that can cause chronic coughing like this in dogs, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine her and do some testing. With coughing that mostly happens when the dog is resting (or shortly thereafter), the first thing that I think about his heart disease - this is a common pattern to see with congestive heart failure, so I would definitely recommend taking Shasta to the vet for an exam and chest x-rays. If her heart checks out okay, then other possible causes would include chronic bronchitis, allergies, collapsing trachea, or a long-standing infection of some kind. Your veterinarian can advise you on what kind of treatment is needed based on the results of her exam and diagnostic testing.

Hello. Poor Zoey may just be feeling the strain of overdoing things with the younger pups. If this is the case, she should start to feel better soon. But if she injured herself, this may take longer & possibly require anti-inflammatory or even muscle relaxant medications. If she is unvaccinated for distemper, I would potentially consider this as a possibility but in older animals, distemper is not commonly seen. She may be uncomfortable from something (painful) or an infection / systemic disease.
