I have seen a lot of dogs do this without finding an underlying cause. Often we chalk it up to weakening of muscles as they age. Since she is older, this may be the cause. If you are worried you should always have a vet check her out. Taking a video of her exhibiting this behavior is recommended so your vet can see what she is doing. Just starting out with basic blood testing is where I would begin.

If your calculated heart rate is indeed this low, either Nor is extremely athletic or has an abnormally low heart rate. This could contribute to the panting if he has a heart condition. I would recommend having Nor examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. A lot can be determined just from a physical examination. This may be absolutely nothing to worry about but with a heart rate this low, I would have a veterinarian assess him further. Asthma is unlikely. You can easily check for a fever using a human thermometer and inserting it gently into the rectum. Normal in dogs is 100-102.5. Panting randomly could be caused by pain, anxiety, heart disease, lung disease, anemia, etc. So if continues to go on, Bella should be examined by a vet.

Any breathing abnormalities should be addressed by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Dyspnea is difficulty breathing and is a generalized term. It can be a result of a respiratory infection, trauma, allergies, a foreign body in the airways, and numerous other things. If your pet is having difficulty breathing, please see your vet right away.

If Shadow is shaking and it seems to be coming from his chest I would take him to the vet asap. It could be a sign that he is in pain or he could be suffering from something such as a chest infection.

This could be abnormal but keep in mind that this may also be normal. Difficulty breathing can be a sign of primary respiratory disease, such as pneumonia, fluid in the lungs or chest, or even lung cancer. Heart disease can also cause fluid to build up in the lungs, which can lead to difficulty breathing, especially at night. I recommend monitoring her breathing rate and effort. If she is breathing more than 40 breaths per minute, or using her abdomen to help her breathe, I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!
