My old dog is vomiting and has bloody diarrhea. Is a vet visit urgent?

Poor Butter! Since this has been going on for 2-3 days now and she is also vomiting and not wanting to eat much, I would recommend taking her to the ER today to be seen, rather than waiting until next week. The ER doctor can do some diagnostic testing to help figure out what's going on (possibly blood work, x-rays, and/or a fecal exam for parasites) and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found. At the very least, it sounds like she needs to be started on some supportive care and symptomatic treatment (for nausea, diarrhea, etc.) since dogs can become dangerously sick if they have symptoms like this for multiple days that are not resolving on their own.

Poor girl. These symptoms are suggestive of an internal illness (i.e. bacterial infection, kidney disease, liver disease, etc) for sure, and therfore its best to get Jace seen by your vet as soon as they open. If you can get her seen within the next 12-24 hrs, then that should be suitable enough. Continue to monitor her gums (should be nice and pink, if pale then it is an emergency), breathing (shortless of breath is an emergency) and energy level (severe lethargy and unresponsiveness is an emergency) for now. This is a medical emergency, and you cannot treat this at home. You have to take Poppy into a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Poor Ginger! I would take her into a vet now. It can be very serious when a senior dog is vomiting, not eating, and is extremely lethargic. She needs veterinary are now, please take her into a vet right away. Best of luck.

It sounds like you have done everything at home you can for Pebbles. Since it has been over 48 hours it is time to take her to your vet. Bring a stool sample if you are able to. Your vet will likely recommend some antibiotics for the diarrhea as well as some probiotics too. Combined vomiting and diarrhea can lead to severe dehydration so you should monitor very closely for weakness which would indicate the need for an emergency vet visit. Rice and water does not provide enough nutrition to promote bowel healing - I recommend a specialist intestinal canned diet or boiled chicken/fish/eggs added to the rice.

It sounds as Dahlia is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
