At his age, you need to consider his overall quality of life. The tumor is likely to grow. I would look at how happy he is. If he is miserable by trying to urinate and not having a good stream then that is uncomfortable for him. IF he has no appetite or can't swallow from the tumor, then there is no quality of life and it is most humane to help him pass in minimal amount of pain. If he is still happy and enjoys life, then you can let him continue until these things become a problem then tell him good bye

These signs are usually related either to urinary tract infection, or to kidney problem (failure) or to urinary incontinence. A blood test and urine analysis can rule out kidney failure and urinary tract infection. Urinary incontinence usually derived from a weak urinary sphincter (quite common in old age females). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. If Bailey has not had a recent exam with a veterinarian, I recommend that be done soon. Both heart disease and liver disease can cause fluid to build up in the abdomen and make pets feel puny and puts pressure on internal organs. Several different diseases can cause enlargement of the liver, including hepatitis, cancer, and Cushing's Disease. Depending on the cause, some of these can be successfully treated. It can be very difficult to decide when it is time for a pet to leave this world. The "right" time will be different and completely OK with each individual pet and family. I recommend that you discuss Bailey's quality of life with your vet. You may also look for a vet that specializes in end-of-life care or pet hospice (sometimes called pawspice). I cannot comment on whether or not it is time to euthanize Sasha since I have never done an exam on her. With her not eating, drinking and urinating in herself, then you have to look at her quality of life. I would talk to your vet to see if there is anything that could help her or if her bloodwork looked too bad. You may talk to your vet about medicine for cognitive disorder (dementia) like anipryl and omega 3 fatty acids. Also, you can add a medicine that helps with incontinence (urinating while sleeping) called proin that may help. Finally, if she is weak and not able to get around and her bloodwork looks good, you may want to talk to your vet about medicines for arthritis. Thee are also appetite stimulants and anti-nausea medicines that usually work really well in animals too. I hope you are able to find a way to keep her comfortable for a little while longer. But also know if your vet says she will not improve, please take comfort in knowing you gave her a long wonderful life. I hope this helps. Hugs!

First of all, sorry to hear about Timmie. Give her lots of love, treats and all the good stuff that she deserves and wants. Usually regardless of the cancer type, I recommend treating any symptoms if they occur. Meaning that if Timmie develops any decreased appetite or nausea or vomiting or diarrhea, these are treated with medications. Otherwise, if you not pursuing cancer therapy, there is really nothing else to do. This decision is hard to make, no question. However, what I tell my clients is to consider making this decision if they think that quality of life has been severely affected. This means when Timmie does not seem to be enjoying herself anymore. You could consider doing it if Timmie stops doing 2 out of her 3 favorite things (that could be eating, playing, running, etc). Best wishes for you and Timmie!

Making the decision to euthanize your pet is never easy. I usually recommend owners make a list of all the things their pet loved/loves to do. For instance, did she used to love to eat, go on walks, play with a special toy, get tummy rubs, go on car rides, etc. Now you make a check mark on the day she does that. As well as noting her appetite and if she can go out to go potty and not have accidents. When she starts to have more bad days than good days it is a sign that her quality of life is poor. You know her best. While her blood work isn't showing any problems there could be medical problems that won't.
