Is Nexgard safe for my 13-week-old puppy's flea and tick prevention?

I really like Nexgard, which is labeled for 4 lbs and up, and as young as 8 weeks. It should be available from most vets. Hope this helps! Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Bella. Bravecto can be used in puppies under 6 months but it's considered off-label or extra-label use. Puppies under 6 months are now treated with Bravecto for demodectic mange so it's safe. Just make sure you use the correct dose for her current weight. Here's part of a thread I copied from a veterinarian only peer-reviewed site- Bravecto should be safe to use, as would be Simparica or Nexgard. Nexgard is labelled for puppies 8 weeks or older, but with either of these drugs you would be using it off label based on using it for treatment of demodicosis, as well as based on the dog's body weight and/or age. If I were to use one of these products, I would go monthly with either Nexgard or Simparica, and every 2 months with Bravecto for this little guy. Another option is Advantage multi even though the dog is not quite 3 lbs - use every 10 days topically. This is a labelled option though not as effective as the off label treatments in my opinion. If/When the dog gains some weight over the next couple of months, you could always switch to an Isoxazoline drug if the Advantage multi isn't benefitting adequately. Good luck

Vii can be given Heartgard (8 weeks is an appropriate age to start) but make sure you have the appropriate sized dose for Vii's weight. For fleas and ticks I recommend a monthly chewable product such as Nexgard, which is labeled for young puppies like Vii. This is a prescription product and is available from your veterinarian. Nexgard is the only oral flea and tick preventative approved in the US for 6 months or younger. I would continue the Nemex every 2 weeks until they start heartworm prevention. I hope this helps!

No worries. You can safely switch up flea medication every 2-4 weeks no problem. All flea prevention is labeled as safe for dogs but pets can have adverse reactions to just about any medication unfortunately. But these are not expected to happen. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Harley. I typically prescribe Vectra 3D once a puppy is 8 weeks of age. It is a flea and tick prevention, but also repels mosquitoes which aids in heartworm prevention. It provides protection against certain types of biting flies, lice and mites. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can take her outside. There is a fine line between socializing and preventing her from contracting a contagious disease. Walks outside are fine. No dog parks, no playing with dogs that are not vaccinated, etc. She is old enough for Nexgard, Revolution and Frontline for fleas and ticks. I hope this helps!
