My 2-week-old puppies' mom won't stay with them. Is this normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 60 lbs

Puppies are two weeks old now, mom does not want to stay in room with them anymore . Is that normal that we have to force her to go in? How much time does she really need to spend with the puppies now?

Let her have her freedom to decide when she wants to be with her puppies and when not. She needs to go feed them several times a day and probably wants (or should) be with them at night. But during the day some dogs will just go to their puppies to feed them and stay away otherwise. Make sure she has access to them all the time, but do not force her to be with her babies.
