Is methocarbamol, Tramadol, Rimadyl safe for my dog's pinched nerve?

However, I do not recommend that you administer any medications if they have not been prescribed by a veterinarian as some of these medications can cause side effects and pre-screening bloodwork should be performed. If this was prescribed by your vet , then this is the amount of medicine he needs. Gabapentin may make him a bit drowsy in the beginning, but that should subside after about two weeks. Gabapentin is against nerve pain. Tramadol is an opioid which takes some pain as well and Metacam is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory which takes away inflammation and therefore also pain. These medicines are safe, however watch your dog's poo in the first two weeks. If it is black or tarry then stop the Metacam and inform your vet.

Use caution. The methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant and has some sedative effects. The Benadryl, as an antihistamines, can be sedating as well. Given together, they may cause extreme lethargy or sedation. Discuss your concerns with your vet prior to administering this combination of medications.

Yes there are no drug interactions listed between these drugs. Tramadol is an opioid used for mild to moderate pain and Rimadyl is an NSAID, a different class of pain medication which works through reducing inflammation. These two can be given together. But tramadol can be used in conjunction with the gabapentin and a non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication ( or pred ) for chronic pain conditions. Take care.

The medications should help and I would continue them as well as limiting her activity. I have good success in my practice with pain relief with heat, massage, laser and acupuncture. I would check your area for an acupuncture veterinarian or a dog rehabilitation practice. They will be able to perform these treatments. Many dogs get immediate relief with acupuncture. Relieving the muscle spasms by using a heating pad and gentle massage is something you can do at home. Please do not use a collar, use a harness if you need to walk her on a leash. Unfortunately this may take several weeks to fully resolve, so seeking alternative care can speed up the healing.
