Even half a dose of Loxiom can have detrimental effect on kidneys if used chronically. So, the answer is absolutely yes, Brino should be weaned off Loxiom and paracetamol or other pain killers (tramadol, gabapentin, amantadine etc) should be used instead.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Why was the Loxicom prescribed in the first place? It's a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory used for pain. Most dogs who give birth naturally and even with C-sections are not prescribed pain medications. In the US the FDA has not approved for use in lactating or pregnant animals. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatorys are excreted in the milk. I would suggest not using it until you speak with your Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!

I am not sure what your pets weight is, but this medication is given at a dosage of 1-2 mg/kg and as high as 3mg/kg daily dosage can be given to pets. I also don’t know what mg dosage your pets Lovan is, since this medication comes in about 3 different dosages. 1 lb=2.2 kg’s. So a 20 lb dog can take around 30 mg of medication daily. As far as toxicity is concerned, around 15.9mg/kg daily dosage can lead to toxicity in dogs. I hope this helps. I'm so sorry to hear about Lusso. If she has a sensitive stomach, then I would try to give the Loxicam with a little food. Even a small amount of a treat or a bit of bread might be enough. If she generally does not have a problem with a sensitive stomach and Loxicam has never bothered her before, then you might be able to get away with giving it on an empty stomach, but I always recommend trying to get something into them around the same time as the medication to prevent other problems. If there is a particular time of day that she tends to eat better than others, you may also consider changing the time of day that you give the Loxicam, so it can be with some food. Good luck! I would still have Rover checked out by a vet to be safe. Overdoses of Loxicom can cause acute kidney failure, and that will take a couple of days for it to show symptoms. It's best to have his kidney function checked now with bloodworm and again in a few days to make sure they are working well. I'd bring him into a vet now. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
