Why does my Jack Russell have stomach issues with every kibble?

I recommend to ask your veterinarian this question. A true food allergy generally requires a special diet (this is generally a prescription food and I always recommend one with a hydrolyzed protein). Dietary intolerance may just need a diet that is formulated for sensitive stomachs. I recommend the Royal Canin or Purina ProPlan. Your vet will be able to guide you as to which type of food to try. Captain jack is really cute! I am sorry for his intermittent stomach issues. You may want to consider putting him on a probiotics. Also talk to your vet about ruling out any intestinal parasites, giardia, or other abnormal bacteria. He may also need to be on a diet for sensitive stomachs like science diet I/D. You can also add a small amount (1/2 teaspoon) of canned pumpkin to his food twice a day to help keep him regulsted. I hope this helps!

It is certainly possible that the food is the problem. I couldn't say what it is about that brand that is problematic, but some dogs simply do better with certain brands than others. If she has a chicken allergy, I would make sure that whatever brand of food you choose you check extremely carefully for ingredients, and may go as far as calling up the company. Sometimes they can sneak something like "poultry by product" in at the very end of the ingredient list and it is very easy to miss. There are also prescription diets available that are very low ingredient and generally safer for pets with dietary issues. Other issues that can cause gastrointestinal issues in dogs would include inflammatory or infectious diseases, immune-mediated diseases (such as IBD), certain cancers, liver disease, and a few other less common possibilities. If she hasn't already, it might be a good idea to obtain some blood work just to see if everything is checking out OK. Ultrasound and abdominal radiographs are also possibilities if you want to explore the problem in more detail.

Well over time excessive vomiting can lead to issues along the GI tract like esophageal erosion, ulcers, etc. So it is best to try and get a handle on things now before they progress. One very possible cause for the vomiting at this consistency is a food allergy. Try discussing with your vet about getting Jax on a hypoallergenic food or highly digestible food such as Royal Canin Hypoallergenic hydrolyzed protein or Iams Intestinal Health Low Residue. These foods make it easier for the pet to digest leading to fewer vomiting episodes and overall good quality of health.

I'm glad to hear that Lucy otherwise seems to be eating, drinking and acting normally! However, it is very concerning that she has had vomiting with dark material that may or may not be blood. If blood is present, it is possible that she could have an ulcer in her stomach and/or intestines, severe intestinal parasites, exposure to a toxin, cancer, among many other issues. Even though this has only happened twice over 2 months, I still strongly recommend taking Lucy to her vet for evaluation. She may need to have abdominal x-rays and/or ultrasound, as well as some blood testing. From there, her vet will be able to advise you as to the best course of treatment. I would recommend talking to your vet about different kibble options or additives since they are more familiar with Jack's medical history. Often, using human foods to "flavor" dog food to encourage eating just allows the dog to start choosing what they want to eat. Jack is training you that if he doesn't eat his food, he can have something even more tasty. There are lots of different prescription diets that can be tried if Jack truly doesn't want to eat the KO anymore.

Poor Pepper! If she has a food allergy/intolerance issue, then she needs to be on a strict veterinary prescription food allergy diet like Hills Z/D or Royal Canin Anallergenic. These diets are called "hydrolyzed protein" diets because they have gone through a special cooking process that breaks down potential allergens in the diet so Pepper's immune system doesn't recognize them as a problem. She needs to eat one of these diets exclusively for 8-10 weeks to see if there is a benefit. Hope that helps!
