Why is my 8-week-old Jack Russell puppy whining and not eating?

Even though she is drinking, it is not likely enough. The stress of coming to new home can affect a puppy's appetite, but you need to ensure she is not sick. Captain jack is really cute! I am sorry for his intermittent stomach issues. You may want to consider putting him on a probiotics. Also talk to your vet about ruling out any intestinal parasites, giardia, or other abnormal bacteria. He may also need to be on a diet for sensitive stomachs like science diet I/D. You can also add a small amount (1/2 teaspoon) of canned pumpkin to his food twice a day to help keep him regulsted. I hope this helps!

Being a young puppy, it will be easy for him to become dehydrated. He could be painful somewhere or even be experiencing an upper respiratory tract infection. Is he coughing or sneezing at all? Neck and/or back pain are also common in small breed dogs. His veterinarian will be able to tell based on his exam findings. In the meantime, keep him quiet to allow his body to rest. This is a common problem in small breed dogs. They can be stubborn when it comes to dry food. I would stop offering her milk as this can upset her tummy. You could mix in some canned food or boiled chicken with her dry food to see if this helps to entice her to eat. If so, slowly start to decrease the canned food until she is just on dry food. And you may have to just be more stubborn than her. If she is continuously refusing the eat or not acting right then I would take her to your vet to ensure everything is okay. If she is skipping meals and she weighs less than 5 pounds then I would supplement her with nutrical (high calorie vitamin supplement) to help prevent her blood sugar from becoming too low. Hi. Poor baby :( That definitely is concerning especially for a puppy. There are obviously alot of causes for not eating. It could range from parasites, to dietary indiscretions, to viral infection (parvo), and many other illnesses. I would recommend getting Jax seen tomorrow at your vet or the ER because puppies can get dehydrated, hypoglycemic and decompensate quickly. They will do an exam, a parvo test, and a fecal to start most likely. Good luck

Seeing that your puppy is quite young, it is possible that he is dealing with some infectious disease such as Parvo or Distemper. I would have him examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
