Why won't my 8-week-old Shih Tzu puppy eat after changing food?

Being such a young puppy, it will be easy for his blood sugar to drop too low from not eating. Sometimes puppies can have a slight decrease in appetite when they first come home since it is a big adjustment, however it sounds like you've had her a few days. Given her age and her breed I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have low blood sugar, parasites, or another medical problem affecting her appetite. If she also seems weak, lethargic or disoriented you should see an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. She is adorable!

If Bella ate dinner last night and again at midnight, it is possible that she is not hungry. However, if she continues to not eat through the remainder of the the day, I would recommend you take her to the veterinarian because this could be a sign of illness. If you notice any lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea, you should take her to the veterinarian right away.

Hello there. That is a good question! Sorry to hear that Jax is not feeling well. You should definitely be concerned. It is really not normal for a puppy to not want to eat. One meal......not a huge deal but if this continues for more than 12 hours or if he starts vomiting, is very lethargic, begins having diarrhea or otherwise acts abnormal then you need to take him to your vet immediately! This can be an early sign of something more serious. Puppies can go from bad to worse quickly so you don't want to wait to long to get them medical help if they need it. I hope that a Boxer puppy at 8 weeks of age weighs more than 3 pounds so I hope that is a typo or I definitely think he is not getting enough food.... Jax will need to be seen by a vet at 12 weeks of age for vaccine boosters, a fecal test and dewormer so be sure to make that appointment. It's very concerning when a young puppy won't eat, and it could be caused by a serious illness, such as parvovirus, distemper, intestinal worms, infection, or injury among other causes. It's important to have the cause of his anorexia diagnosed so he can be treated. Please take him into a vet now.

Poor Skitty! Although it's possible that she may just be sore, acting weak and not eating can be signs of serious internal injuries. This may be a life-threatening problem, so I would really recommend taking her to an emergency vet tonight for an exam. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine how badly she is injured and what needs to be done to help her.
