How can I tell my 11-week-old, 13lb rescue puppy's breed and size?

Hi there. I'm afraid it's not possible to tell what breed a puppy is just by looking at a photo, as coat color and length, general body shape, etc. often change a great deal as puppies grow. From what I can see, he looks like a medium-to-large breed of some sort. Possibly some kind of retriever mix, but that's just a guess. If you don't have any information about his parents, your best bet would be to have a DNA test such as a Wisdom panel done. This would give you more information about what breed (or mix of breeds) he is, which would allow you to make a more educated guess about his adult size and weight.

Hi there. Baby Rogie is really handsome! Unfortunately there is no way to know what breed he is just by looking at him. The only way to know for sure is to have a DNA test done. They are easy to do and inexpensive. I recommend Wisdom Panel. It's really impossible to tell from a picture alone. It looks like this must be a picture of Sharon as a puppy (since you list his weight as 58lbs, but the pictured dog is much closer to 10lbs). I would guess some combination of terrier, collie, and "other". I would recommend using a DNA test to get a better idea. Embark and Wisdom Panel are two options. What a cutie. My guess would be pit bull mix, with a combo of at least 3-4 breeds. If you'd like to know his background there are genetic tests you can do for fun. Embark and Wisdom Panel are both companies that offer this service. Enjoy your new addition!

He is certainly a cutie! It is truly impossible to determine the origins of a mixed breed dog based on appearances. particularly one this young. I can see what could be cane corso or another mastiff/bully breed in his face. If you want to know his lineage I would recommend a genetic test. You can order the Wisdom Panel online or ask your vet if they have a test they can perform. As far as his size, it will depend on his parents if you have seen them, or for a very rough estimate we sometimes will see what the weight at 3 months is and triple this for a guess at adult size.

What a cutie!!!! This is strictly as guess as visual identification has been proven to be 75% inaccurate but if I had to guess, he looks like there is hound and possibly Cattle Dog. Its highly unlikely however that he is a 50/50 mix. I bet there are several breeds present within his ancestry! There are many canine genetic companies out there and some are better than others. You will need to check however that they have a canine genetic database from the country where he is coming from as genetic signatures do vary based upon location or origin.
